Help me I've ruined my fireplace!

Anyone know what kind of paint would fix the Gazco gas fire? I got a bit trigger happy with a mould spray and saw some tiny marks on the grate, assumed it was mould and merrily sprayed away! Came back 15mins later and the fire looked like this where it's kind of burned through the top layer and made it rust 🤦‍♀️

You can buy wood burner spray paint, I've got one from Homebase.

I would wipe off any residue of the mould spray with a damp cloth and dry it. Then sand the rusty patches so the surface is smooth (with a fine grade paper), wipe again to remove dust and then give it several coats of heatproof spray paint - like this one from Screwfix, which is £6.99 a can.

You're welcome Smile, good luck with it, my dh says you could rub it down with steel wool or fine wet and dry paper to get rid of the rust and smooth it out.

Also, if that front section of the fire is removable - do the spraying outside on a dry and still (not breezy!) day as the paint will have lots of solvent fumes!

If you can't get the front off, mask up all around the bit you need to paint with masking tape and newspaper and open all the windows Smile!
