What have you got at your bifold doors, if anything

We have bifolds and a large window on the same wall. The window needs new blinds, but I'm undecided whether the bifolds need the same or nothing.

Only problem with nothing is the sun can be a bit full on.

What's at yours?

Curtains but I never really use them.

We didn't buy them, but the bifolds in this house have blinds in between the glass, with the controls for up/down and twisting on the frame.

I had curtains but also had boiled on a rail and just pulled the blokes across for privacy and sun etc. new house we don't have any houses behind us so not had anything up and will keep it that way

Have blinds - they are just on the window parts and we manually pull them up and down. Useful on sunny days but also closing them at night this winter has kept the kitchen warmer.

I have french windows, not bifold. The first year we had them fitted we had nothing on them, but the room is south facing so gets very hot in summer, and our sofa is next to them with a cat flap in the pane, so it can be draughty in winter to sit there.
We now have floor length curtains fitted on the outside of the recess with a lining that insulates against heat.

So do we think a roller blind at the window and a matching curtain or blind at the bifolds?

I usually love a bit of home decorating, but I'm really lacking ideas.

We have curtains across the bifold now - mainly to keep the heat in, but are easier to open/close.

We have an awning attached to the outside. It’s pricey but it’s better at keeping out heat than a curtain or blinds, as the sun is stopped before it gets through the glass. You can still see into the

garden and go out through the doors with the awning out, whereas with blinds down or curtain shut you can’t. It shades our outside seating on the terrace. Oh and it gives privacy (we are overlooked). Lots of benefits.

Hi, would you recommend the integrated blinds on the bifolds? We are looking to get some and are really torn?

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 22/09/2023 18:38

We fitted recessed Venetian blinds into the bifold. Got them from blinds to go - no screws etc they just fit into the frames and can be lifted to open the view and tilted to open/close

neilyoungismyhero · 22/09/2023 18:41

I've got a net which I only use when the sun is really full on or when there are millions of insects about. I wish I'd gone for the integral blinds but they were expensive and it's too late now.

I had bi folds put in this year and we opted for the integrated blinds, it was the best decision we ever made (cost extra obviously and we opted for remote control blinds) but external blinds and curtails made to measure aren't cheap either. The blinds keep the sun out when its full pelt into the room, then after lunch we open them, without it we would have been sat in a greenhouse for half the day, boiling!

Our current kitchen diner's east facing and not overlooked so we've never needed anything on the bifolds - the morning sun's lovely. I hate curtains, so in our previous SW facing house we had to have enormous blinds custom made to make it bearable from lunchtime onwards in the summer. I think it depends hugely on the direction you face and whether or not people can see in. I will be checking very carefully if we ever move!
