Anyone else ever had a sudden change of mind when decorating?

I went to buy some wallpaper I’d been fairly settled on for a while, something “polite” in colour and style, but after picking out rolls from the same batch and checking what kind of wallpaper paste to use etc., I had an uncharacteristic sudden change of mind and came out with something completely different, with a more “bold” print and a totally different colour and style. I don’t know what came over me!! Has anybody else done the same? And were you happy with the final decision or did you regret your moment of madness?!

I impulse bought wallpaper.
My bathroom is now covered in birds. Love it!

Ooh sounds great! I think with most of the place having a neutral colour scheme, I thought what the heck, do something different with this one room (if I hate it, it’ll only be one wall to re-paper and the rest to re-paint!)

Good for you! I don’t think I’ve ever regretted making a bold decor choice, far more likely to regret playing safe I reckon. What’s the paper you chose?

AlmostThereMaybe · 02/01/2023 16:37

It has leopards on it. Never had anything like it before…

@AlmostThereMaybe that’s lovely! I’m sure you will love it

When are you planning on walk papering?

how much 'extra' do you have? Is it expensive?

if you have extra & time I'd cut a chunk up and pin it up, see if you love it more or less.

if you're doing it tomorrow I'd just plough on if you still like it!

as you say, you can always re do it, £££ permitting, it's only paper & paint.

anyone else you need to consider?

I did it with.kitchem cupboards. I wanted white cabinets but after looking around 2 shops fell in love with dark ones. DH could not believe it. They look good in kitchen though.

Oh yeah, I was either going to have a neutral living room or fashionable dark green or navy....then flipped and went for fushia!

I think I must have looked at so many tasteful rooms trying to decide that I got taste fatigued 😂

The papering is happening today! I’ve hopefully bought enough extra rolls to account for the pattern repeat measurement. It’s not expensive. I think if I’d had the original idea of something like it, I would’ve spent hours looking at different versions and spent a lot more.

Yes, there is another occupant who has to live with my choice, they were with me in the store and I think they were so amused/taken aback at my behaviour that they just went along with it!!

The wallpaper is for a feature wall of a snug/second living room so I’m sure it’ll be fine…I just need to see what the paint I chose during the same shopping trip actually looks like when on the walls (I’m on a third colour for the bathroom as the paint sample pots didn’t seem to correspond to the normal sized tins?!)

Mine was halfway through!
I'd painted a wall in our newly renovated kitchen. I was wearing an old polo top that was uniform when I worked at the co-op aeons ago.
As I stopped for a coffee and stood back to look at the half painted wall I realised half my kitchen was now 'co op blue' and exactly the same colour as my shirt. I was in B&Q within half an hour 😂

@OooPourUsACupLove

i don't suppose we could have a photo??

@MadamLeota

excellent shift!!

@AlmostThereMaybe

How are you getting on?

I hope you both like it!!

Saz12 · 03/01/2023 18:45

I’ve impulse-painted a small bathroom bright orange.

I love it. DH does not. DC refusing to take sides.

AlmostThereMaybe · 03/01/2023 19:53

The wallpaper is up and I love it! Not sure at all about the paint colour but I’ll see what I think when it’s dried properly.

@SkylightSkylight

I tried but the colour looks more like terracotta when I photograph it. I'll try tomorrow in daylight. It's F&B Lake Red www.farrow-ball.com/archived-paint/lake-red

I bought some testers in stone very standard pale blues for my bathroom and impulse bought a deep teal/green tester. I usually do a little patch and then bigger and bigger patches of the ones I like any I ended up with the biggest patch being this green. So now I have a dark green bathroom. And I love it. Haven't regretted it once.

longtompot · 03/01/2023 22:17

Not changed my mind but have just impulse bought some emerald green paint for the bathroom! For the first time since we moved here we have bulbs in all the led light fittings and it's too bright! The tiles are shades of beige, the floor is pale and the suite is white so I think it can take it.

Will find out when I paint it!

It's not too out there for me. I once painted our white bathroom with retro green/blue suite navy blue and everyone loved it!
