Confused about sofa materials - cats, DFS plaza and others

Need to buy a sofa from a shop we can try them. Went to dfs, sofology and furniture village yesterday and the ones we find comfortable are the chesterfield style ones or similar supportive, not too loungy ones. Trouble is most only come in velvet which we love but although our cat doesn’t scratch our velvet chair we can’t cope with the hair that sticks hard to it . The other materials look like they are not close enough weave/will attract cat claws. Have any cat owners got a DFS sofa with Plaza material? How is it?

Any other shops where you can try sofas with materials other than Velvet? I see M and S has loads of materials but slightly over budget and not a store with loads to try near us. Max Budget is £1100 for a three seater. Not leather, have read polyester is good but the ones we saw in store were velvet polyester or wide knit

Can’t help on the DFS element, but I do own both a cat and a velvet sofa and it’s honestly not a terrible combo! My sofa is from Sofology and has their clever velvet, or whatever they call it, and it’s been largely cat proof so far. Any cat hair shedding is really easily wiped off with a damp cloth, takes a few seconds.

I've found cat hair & velvet one of the easiest combinations to manage.

but if you don't want it, you dont want it.

Thanks for your replies - this is good to hear. Have checked all the stores now locally where can try them and our budget means the only options (unless we go for a style and colour we really dislike) are velvet or dfs plaza material. So may go for velvet in the end but interested to hear reviews of plaza fabric:)

Hey, I would not go for plaza. I recently had the orka sofa from dfs and hated the material so much. To me it was like stroking tights, gave me that horrible feeling. I sent sofa back. Currently sofaless whilst searching for the perfect one. Love the finchley in sofology and now deciding between velvet and weaved. I've got two cats and a dog, worried it will stain easily. However, their velvet is polyester so its a lot easier to clean that cotton or silk velvet. You can take dogs in store, I'm tempted to pop her on a velvet one in there and see how much hair is left!

I got some fabric sample from sofasofa and they do linen in Chesterfield, they are in Newport though
