Moved in 4 years ago and after dumping furniture in here we've never really played with the layout. I hate it. The toy area has an ikea kitchen, a dressing up clothes rack, storage with 6 boxes in. The alcoves are very deep and not even in width. The red boxes are floor to ceiling windows, the yellow one is a door to the garden (so the room is also a corridor), green is the chimney breast, blue are radiators and purple is the door into the room from the corridor. When we moved in the tv needed to be connected to the cable from the street but we have roku now so the tv can be anywhere there is a socket. The room is appx 4.5m×6.5m.

Pic 1 is the empty room and pic 2 is just the same with the current layout. Do I just need a sort out and better storage or is this layout something that can be improved?

Can you get a copy of the floor plan with dimensions from the old Rightmove listing? It's quite hard to visualise the space.

I would get built in storage (floor to ceiling, wardrobe) all along the wall on the top of your diagram so that all the toys can be put away and it doesn't become a toy /play room. You'd need to move the radiator on that wall but thats not a big issue. I think the layout is OK other than that - I'd potentially move the sofa in the middle down a little, put the TV on the wall on the chimney breast just to make things feel more spacious.

Thanks for your replies. I kept playing around with this yesterday and decided we need the ikea storage along the top wall, like you said. There isn't anywhere to move the radiator to but it's not the end of the world. The ikea storage will also provide a table for the children to colour and to store pens and pencils. I'm going to get built in storage in the alcoves with the tv built in to the larger one. I've thought about having it in the chimney breast but it's too high sadly and we'd get sore necks. I'm also eventually going to replace the sofas and get a large corner sofa. I always think about the Christmas tree when I'm planning a house so the tree will go where the tv is at the moment and might get an arm chair to go there for the other 11 months!
