How would you arrange furniture in this sitting room? It's dual aspect with French doors on either end. The one wall has 2 doors on it and a large fireplace. The radiators are on the other wall. There's not much wall space and its quite a rectangular room so I'm not sure where to put any furniture!

If the fireplace is attractive and you'd use it, I'd put a sofa either side of the fireplace, facing each other with a big rug and coffee table between, like you see in interiors mags of grand houses.

Then create eye-catching areas in the corners with attractive groupings of table/desk/shelving with lamps and ornaments. Add some paintings and prints along the walls and big plants in floor pots near the windows.

Or

On the side of the living room furthest from the kitchen create an area for watching TV with sofa and chairs. Then by the french windows, chairs and table overlooking the garden, so two distinct areas. If you put the TV on the wall beside the fireplace then a sofa opposite and against the window wall would benefit if the fire was lit or the TV was on.

Looks like a good-sized room.

depends what furniture you have. are you buying new or using existing?

In this version, i've assumed that the french doors to the front will never be used (as they are so near the front door), so I've drawn a low console table (C) or low bookshelf in front of them. then a big L shape sofa (S) opposite the fireplace. and a small desk or decorative table (D) near the garden. also a light weight movable chair near the door to the kitchen. TV could go on the wall by the fireplace.
