A room scent that smells like a church

Not the church smell that is mouldy hymn books and instant coffee, but that really deep rich smell that is a combination of incense, beeswax and wax. I don't mind if it's a candle or oils or a diffuser but I want it to be strong and lovely. I don't even mind if it's on the expensive end - my aunt has generously offered me a Christmas gift with the only requirement that it's frivolous and something I really want. Any suggestions very welcome.

Cire Trudon do a candle that smells like this - annoyingly I can't remember what it's called but it's recommended in Nigel Slater's Christmas book!

Pure beeswax candles. You can get them online - they smell faintly of honey and remind me of choir practice 🙂

I use cathedral incense. Have your thought about a church incense and censer?

A friend of mine had a candle burning in her house, and it instantly reminded me of church. It smelt like that smoking lantern thing that the priest wafts about.
It was a black candle from the white company.

The Cire Trudon candle is called Spiritus Sanctus. It's £70 I think.

I quite like the musty hymn book smell. Reminds me of Sunday school when I was little.
I wouldn't want it in my house though 🤣🤣

claire, I have frankincense and an oil burner in my study which I love. It's very calming and really focuses my mind. But I want something a bit more nuanced for the downstairs area, i think - frankincense is gorgeous but it's one dimensional.

Also buy some clear briwax to polish your wooden furniture with.

Maybe depends on what denomination you are - the smoky incensey smells are more a Catholic thing.

Get some mothballs and invite a few old people round for the afternoon. Your house will then smell like a church.

@Windingdown i splurged some Christmas money on Spiritus Sanctus. I think this may be my favourite smell ever. I'm going to have to sell a kidney to fund future replacements.
