Wooden bed with <3" gap between slats

Sorry Mumsnet I don't know where else to turn!
We bought a mattress which specifies that it can go on a wooden bed frame as long as there is no more than 3" gap between slats.

We're now struggling to find that, ones in shops seem to have bigger gaps, ones online mostly don't specify.

Has anyone bought a pine bed with less than 3 inch gaps between slats and if so, what or where from please? Thank you.

Can you just get the right length pieces of wood and lay them between the existing slats on the bed?

If you're at all heavy I'd get 1x6 boards cut to correct width of inside frame placed with max 2" air gaps. If you're light enough just buy a spare set of slats (wayfair, amazon etc), add them at one end ; decreasing the spacing (strapping will bunch up).

I'm sorry to ask, but are you measuring correctly? 3 inches is 7.5 cm between slats. You should be able to find something.

Yeah I’m sure our Dreams beds are all less than 3”.

SheWoreYellow · 30/10/2022 16:38

This one the spring slat options are 1.8” apart

We added a couple of sheets of pegboard layered between the slats and mattress. The holes allow airflow while providing extra support. We bought it at Travis Perkins quite cheaply and they cut it to size.

3 inches is loads. I don't think I've ever had a bed with bigger than that gap. You're not measuring in centimetres or including the width of the slat itself are you?!

Thank you all. I've done diy solutions in previous beds but could feel the difference when I added extra slats. As we haven't yet bought the bed I'd rather just buy one that meets the spec. I'm sure there's plenty out there but the few non painted pine beds I've seen in showrooms haven't met the spec.

For those who think I'm crazy, here's an example of a bed that states it has 9cm (3.5") gaps between slats. www.dunelm.com/product/sol-pine-bedstead-1000088958?defaultSkuId=30283120
Most online don't say.

So I am very grateful for the link @SheWoreYellow , it's nice to know they are out there, really I am looking for pine finish (varnish/lacquer not waxed) and ideally with a low footboard but I may have to compromise.
