Wrong hight for this lamp shade ?

Tom Ruffield Skipper medium lamp shade . I wanted it “1970” low hanging . DH didn’t . To be fair when we are seated it’s a good view looking up but I think we have lost the “wow” factor by hanging it so high. Can I have your thoughts please.

No idea but your house looks gorgeous 😱 feel free to post more pics 🤣

I won't profess to understand the art of lighting in general but I think your pendant looks good. I hate having bulbs and fixtures in my face especially when eating!

SwedishEdith · 20/10/2022 21:24

Yeah, needs to be lower. Probably to just below the top of the pine door would be fine.

Footgoose · 20/10/2022 21:34

@TerfQueen thank you . That’s very kind . It’s taken us a long time to get to this point.
@DarkAndDusty . exactly what my DH thinks and said .
@SwedishEdith . yup , pretty much what I eye balled it at too.
I suppose it comes down to a matter of opinion . But to me , I feel it should be lower ( and we can eat at one end of the table 😁)

I'd put the top of it at the height you have the bottom of it now.

The big mantle, the fire, huge windows, the dogs! You’re living the dream Op, enjoy every minute it’s beautiful!!!

Footgoose · 20/10/2022 21:49

Thank you @TerfQueen , I don’t care about the lamp now you have said all that. 😊
@PragmaticWench but yes. I totally agree . It’s just a bit to high for when I’m not distracted by dogs warming themselves on the fire . 😝

Much too high. I'd have it no higher than the top of it at the top of the side window. We are a short family though, my tall cousin complains how low our lampshades are when he comes to visit! Also, get a pretty ceiling rose and coloured cord (a nice blue to tie in with the kitchen cabinets, you can get loads of colours on ebay) to finish it off. Dowsing and Reynolds is a good place to start looking at ceiling roses.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/10/2022 19:05

Also, gorgeous lampshade 😍

ErrolTheDragon · 21/10/2022 19:11

I think it's fine where it is, within the space of that room. I think it's casting light onto the ceiling nicely, so you're getting reflected, diffuse light back - I think you'd lose that nice effect if it was lower. It could maybe go down a little bit, but some of the suggestions would make it too 'in your face' (and I'm short!) and disconnected.

Footgoose · 22/10/2022 09:05

Thanks , I’ve persuaded DH to lower it a bit . @ErrolTheDragon , thanks for pouring out the light reflecting on the ceiling , I hadn’t really paid attention and you are right and it’s rather pretty !

I have ordered a couple more of similar shades from the same web site to go in other rooms . They will come with the rose and cord so we can swap them around .
@JaninaDuszejko , yes to different coloured roses and cords too ! . What the builders fitted are pretty plain and a bit cheap looking . This shade is hung with the kit it came with but we have changed other fittings to black. Makes a big difference!

Don't suppose you fancy do a walk through of your house, like the estate agents do for online viewing 😉. What a fabulous house!

thegruffalosbum · 22/10/2022 09:35

I agree it would look better lower. Beautiful lampshade but cleaning it looks like a bugger!

PragmaticWench · 20/10/2022 21:40

I'd put the top of it at the height you have the bottom of it now.

Me too.

BlueHexagon · 24/10/2022 20:17

If it's over the dining table it should be just above seated head height, I would have thought:

Thanks @BlueHexagon . That’s helpful.

WhaaWhaa · 25/10/2022 07:07

Yes, above head height but below where it is now.

It looks lovely, all of it.

Popvan · 25/10/2022 07:27

It looks like it's suspended by flex from a ceiling rose, just buy longer flex and replace it.

Footgoose · 30/10/2022 21:13

Update . Moved it lower.

I hope it's not now too low. If you ever have a party and want to move the table will people walk into it? I guess you can loop it out of the way somehow.

Lovely room

Footgoose · 01/11/2022 11:10

Mosaic , we thought of that too . We would take it off and tuck the cord away somehow . There are plenty spots in the ceiling thankfully .
