I've never had a wall mounted tv before and it feels like I'm really having to look up to watch it!

Is my TV too high?

Possibly if it's uncomfortable. I couldn't bear the visible cables either.

userxx · 19/10/2022 19:22

Yeah, it's not far off the door frame. It needs to be lower.

MrsTuxedo · 19/10/2022 19:24

Yes for comfort but also aesthetics , to hide the cables

missinghumpty · 19/10/2022 19:25

The cables are going to be hidden I've just not bought the case or whatever it is you need to hide them yet. I'm not sure I can lower it now.. can I? My walls are really thin so my dad put it in where there were solid parts.

Could it go above the fireplace just at edge of pic? That might look neater.
Will you chase the wires in?

Anniefrenchfry · 19/10/2022 19:25

Yes it needs to be about a foot lower at least.

im not going to lie I hope that little cabinet is moving, it looks awful all together.

B1pbop · 19/10/2022 19:26

Yes too high - bad for your neck assuming you’re sitting on a sofa to watch it. I’d put it about a hand’s width above the top of the baby gate. You can chase the wires into the wall or get a cable tidy.

Ah ok then what was the point of asking.,,

hide the cables, move the cabinet, reassess…

CrispyNoodles · 19/10/2022 19:26

I'd get a crick in my neck watching that !
Yes, I think it's too high.

user175438765 · 19/10/2022 19:28

It would probably look better on the TV table, have you got the little stand that comes with the TV

Whistlesandbell · 19/10/2022 19:28

I think it would be in the right position on top of the cabinet and not on the wall.

Dougieowner · 19/10/2022 19:28

Yes, waayyy too high (but then again I hate wall mounted TV's anyway).

JennyForeigner · 19/10/2022 19:30

I have a family member who curates art exhibitions. Her secret trick is always lower than you think.

I would go much much lower and although wall mounted, still align to the furniture. High tvs look like budget hotel foyers.

user175438765 · 19/10/2022 19:30

It looks like it has come adrift from that TV stand

fruitstick · 19/10/2022 19:30

Our TV is higher than I would like and it's still lower than that.

I'm afraid you need to move it down.

DarkAndDusty · 19/10/2022 19:31

Just have it sit on the TV stand you have there - that's what's it's for!

doingitalllagain · 19/10/2022 19:32

Way too high!

If it makes you feel any better we hired a man to come and hang our TV as it was too big for us to do alone, he had to come back three times and lower it because it just wasn't right. I would think it was and then by the end of the evening would feel it in my neck. The last time he threatened to block my number if I called him again the next day Grin

userxx · 19/10/2022 19:33

If the walls won't take it then put it back on the tv stand, you don't want that coming off with kids around.

Anniefrenchfry · 19/10/2022 19:33

I had mine installed by John Lewis, I just measured and irs about 18 inches from the top of the door. If you measure down. It’s a 55 inch tv. It is the perfect height. And the men who installed it recommended where to put it.

We then have floating glass shelves underneath to hold the sky box and sound bar. They are directly below the tv so hide the wiring, which the men hid behind the bar at rhe back of the shelves.

We had the old (smaller) tv on the stand and we would always knock into it as we walked past which is why we thought to mount it. Hmm it took my dad ages to put it in wishing we hadn't now 🤦🏼‍♀️ I might get a shelf and get rid of the tv stand now

Whistlesandbell · 19/10/2022 19:36

Can you move the stand a bit towards the fire and put the TV back on it? Or have the TV at a slight angle so you don’t walk into it?

Justworkplease · 19/10/2022 19:36

I’m not a fan of wall mounted TVs personally but my toddler kept knocking into our tv unit and I was worried about the tv falling on him so we’ve wall mounted ours now. It attached to the wall just in the same position that it would be if it were sitting on the unit if that makes sense? So much much lower than yours.

Id bring yours down quite a bit - especially if it’s uncomfortable to watch!

Anniefrenchfry · 19/10/2022 19:37

I’d defo get rid of the stand. A tv stand with a tv floating above it is not a great look.

the issue is the wall will have holes in it now. So they need to be filled.

move the tv stand out the way and take another pic.

user175438765 · 19/10/2022 19:37

Ah right, I see, especially as it is near the door and it looks like you have DC so that could be dangerous, so probably get a shelf or narrow stand for the stuff on there and put the TV a bit lower

Anniefrenchfry · 19/10/2022 19:40

I’m not going to lie op, it looks wonky, did he put a spirit level along the top?
