Do velux ant-heat blinds or shutters make a difference

Do Velux anti-heat blinds or shutters make a difference to how hot a room gets on a hot day vs just keeping ordinary black-out blinds closed? I'm struggling to see how they can justify the hike in cost!

Hi am having two large velux windows put in small side extension. This room will gets full sun in the afternoon and am worried it’s going to be really hot but we need roof lights as this will be off the kitchen so don’t want to make it dark

Well apart from the fact this was an OLD thread... we had the heat protection glass fitted in our south-facing extension velux windows instead of the usual glass. Makes a big difference to the heat inside with sun. Better than having to fit blinds and making the room dark. Not 100% cool but absolutely worth the price difference.
