Mattress recommendations

I'm looking for some mattress recommendations. Type of mattresses, ones that you've found comfy. Ideally under £500 for a double.

I need something that is cooling rather than being too warm. I sleep on my front mostly. I will be using bed alone so some movement isn't a problem.

Thank you 😊

I bought a SImba mattress a few years ago and still love it.

Thank you - a lot of the ads popping up since I searched are for Simba, Emma etc but nice to know what people think once using a particular mattress for a while. I want this to be a long term purchase so don't mind spending more than I might usually (although on a fairly tight budget still can't go into £1k)

We went to a mattress factory where they make them. Have a google and see if there is anything near you like that. Cuts out the middle man and we had a mattress made to our specification, however, they did make ready to buy mattresses too. They are very knowledgeable because they make them. Firm for one person is not firm for another.

I've had Simba and it was ok but I prefer my Emma which is cheaper

If you can stretch to more £££ I'd recommend John Lewis own make - they told me they were made by Hypnos. I paid about £800 several years ago and it's been a brilliant mattress.

I have a silent night essential pocket sprung 1000. It wasn't £££ and I find it really comfy

Thank you for your recommendations - have been looking at each :)

M&S tufted silk and horsehair one with an integral down topper. We've had it eight years and going to bed is still bliss!

We have IKEA mattresses and honestly find them the comfiest things ever! I have a John Lewis duck down topper just for the winter with an IKEA duck down duvet. Very cosy!

A couple of years ago we got John Lewis memory foam mattress, ours was pocket memory and our older kids just got memory foam ones and we all love them. Not expensive either.

We have a Nectar mattress, similar to Emma and Simba etc. It's very comfortable and we have had no issues (our old expensive mattress from Benson's sagged in the middle) and we got 2 pillows, a duvet, a mattress protector and a full set of sheets for free too! I think they have a similar deal on again at the moment as I looked the other day to recommend to a friend.

hesbeen2021 · 16/10/2022 09:25

I love my Simba although it is a bit warm

Tumbleweed101 · 16/10/2022 17:46

I popped into Dreams today. They have a computer system that assess you which was quite interesting! 😄.

Anyway, there are a couple from there I am now seriously considering. One comfortably in budget , the other top end of my budget. Both are sprung mattresses but the top end one has a lovely pillow top which was so comfy.

I bought a new mattress for teen DS from the same shop I got his bed frame from - a random pick. It is unbelievably comfortable and I've since bought the same thing for two more beds following a recent house move.

My SIL who has a bad hip slept on one recently and couldn't believe how good it was for her.

On the downside I now find it very hard to get out of bed in the mornings.

We got an Emma premium in January sales, so 50% off then a 5% off discount code also worked - it was £550 for our super king and oh my word it’s changed my life!

2ManyPjs · 19/10/2022 22:06

I like Emma too but I have to say the comfiest I've had is Ikea!
