How do you get rid of drafts ?

Hi! My bedroom is facing north and it always feels colder than the rest of the house. I've already sealed the windows, but I still feel the cold air around the windows. What do you do?

Our ancestors used shutters and very large heavy curtains that covered the whole window recess at night. They used lighter lace /net curtains during the day so that light still got in. Anything that adds an extra layer between you and the whole window area will help a lot.

Some low budget ideas -

Get a piece of plexiglass that fits into the recess and place it over the window.

Use masking tape to stick bubblewrap over the whole of the window . You need to bring it right out over the whole window.

You can use flat or flattened cardboard boxes to improvise a big "shutter" to cover the whole window recess at night.

You can cheaply upgrade the thermal efficiency of curtains by using £1.99p shower curtain as a lining.

Try placing an old anorak or coat on the sill right up against and covering the first few inches of the window. There's often cold air seeping in there even if you don't notice a draught.

Agreed with previous answer - thick curtains and layers are the best.

This is why I invested in interlined curtains. More expensive up front but you ( if you put your hand behind the curtains ) can really tell the difference in temperature. I have privacy blinds behind them for summer when heat not an issue.
