The most exciting thread you will read today.... Skirting boards or walls first?

I have recently just had my kitchen done and am going to start painting it this weekend. I usually paint walls first and then skirting but wondering whether or not it is best to do the skirting and other wood work first? Would anyone like to offer their wisdom on this important topic?

Walls always first

I think the standard is walls first.

But my dad always did skirting first reasoning you can wipe emulsion off gloss but not the other way around.

Doesn't matter which way I do it, I suck. But recently bought sone flat angled brushes and they do make it much easier.

Walls then skirting. Wall paint can go on skirting but skirting paint can't go on walls. And splashes usually go down, not up

Prep: clean, fill/caulk and rub down both walls and trim.

Primer on skirting & architrave (Zinsser 123).

Followed by 2 coats emulsion on walls.

After which a quick clean up of any emulsion specks etc, light sand with fine grade to smooth then vacuum all dust before finishing with top coat gloss.

Takes me many days now due to osteoarthritis but looks good when finished.

Thanks for the comments, looks like I've been doing it the correct way all along. Smile
