Ronseal Paint & Grain, any equivalent wood effect paint?

I want to revamp my stair handrail. It's years old and many layers of paint on it so stripping it back to bare wood isn't going to be an option (plus I really cant be arsed with the work involved in that).

There used to be a product called paint and grain which produced a pretty decent finish only I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Has anyone else used anything similar to get a grained effect?

Pic of what I'm hoping to achieve...

Did you ever find this? I'm looking to do the exact same thing but can't find the stuff anywhere!

I did not unfortunately.
Ronseal discontinued it and there doesn't appear to be any similar product on the UK market.
My handrail is still very much white 😭

I know! Annoyingly I'd got another small project that this would have been perfect for, but looks like wood effect paint kits were resigned to the past ☹️
Maybe they will have a revival lol

I thought the Roseal paint and grain left a really silly finish. But if that’s the look you want, you can achieve the same effect by painting a ‘thin wash’ ie paint mixed with water, in dark brown, then when it’s dry, paint over it a thicker lighter colour with a dry brush that doesn’t completely cover the undercoat.

That’ll look just the same as the Ronseal in my opinion.

We 'painted ' over a white handrail with a product from Homebase that was supposed to be used for kitchen cupboards. It is a dark brown paint thats used for undercoat and then a copper varnish paint over the top painted on very sparsely with a dry brush this gives an old wood effect. I don't have pics but it does look like a wood effect.
