A tv unit that’s not a tv unit...

Please help me with some inspiration because I have no idea what I’m looking for 😅😁

I need some kind of unit/sideboard for under our TV (tv will be wall mounted and is 65” - bought in a moment of madness by DH 🙄🤣). Our sky box will need to either go inside the unit or sit ontop.

Needs to be:

  • maximum of 32cm front to back
  • maximum of 160cm long
  • maximum of 82cm high
  • white or can be easily painted white

Everything I’m finding is much deeper than 32cm and I can’t really afford to have it come any further out into the room than that 🤔

Never heard of this site, but this is within the dimensions you listed:

I was after something similar and found the Next bronx space saving sideboard. Would this work for you?

if not maybe just search Google for slim sideboard or space saving sideboard

Zibbydib · 04/09/2022 21:22

Also, do you absolutely need one? We have our Sky box sitting between the tv and the wall mount

Sofachoices · 04/09/2022 21:31

@OliveHenry Thank you! Not quite the style I’m after but definitely as slim as I need so I’ll have a look at the site.

@Zibbydib That would definitely work, although it’s the wrong colour. What’s the finish like? Is it easily paintable? 🤔
Its definitely not an absolute necessity but we’ve downsized to be in a better area for schools etc so if I can squeeze in a small amount of storage without making the place feel too cluttered then I’d like to 🤞🏼😅

Fair enough, every bit of storage helps!

this one might actually be better for you as it’s already white?

Could you use a small bookcase, they are usually about 30cm deep and you could make a hole in the back yourself if you needed for wiring

Sorry @User148563 - I’m not sure how I missed your post 😊 I had originally though i of doing a couple of IKEA billy bookcases side by side and adding the panelled doors to make it a bit more of a sideboard and concealing the mess within 😅 but they’re too tall.

Ive found a couple of options on Wayfair but the reviews on the items are horrendous so I’d rather find something else 🤞🏼

I have my TV mounted on my wall and my Sky box on a ledge. Would this work for you?

Have you looked at the Besta range in IKEA? Ours looks really neat and lots of space inside..might be deeper than 32cm though.

Sofachoices · 07/09/2022 22:03

@Kualma We will be doing some big renovations over the next few years so eventually will have something built in I think 😊 But this room will be the last to be done so want something we can happily live with just now 😊

@TheUsualChaos I have unfortunately! 40cm without doors, 42cm with doors 🤣 seems to be a pretty standard tv unit depth unfortunately!! I have seen a few options but nothing that I particularly like!

Look at Ikea IVAR range, 30 cm deep, comes in white or pine (paintable). There’s a sideboard option which is 160 wide and has mesh doors so perfect for tv boxes.

minipie · 07/09/2022 22:12

It is 83 high though, can you manage another 1cm??

MyAnacondaMight · 08/09/2022 01:09

www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/eket-cabinet-w-2-doors-and-2-shelves-white-30334605/ two of these with feet added?

You could also look at kitchen wall cabinets and add feet and maybe a plinth. They would be the right sort of dimensions (not ikea, which would be too deep).

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/09/2022 10:42

How about a console table?

melmos · 13/09/2022 08:03

We use an IKEA kallax 2x4, looked great in our new build doesn't suit our Victorian terrace. Not sure whether to kit out with fancy boxes and legs or to put on the wall
