Mdf table top

Currently have 4seater dining table. Cheap but solid wood. Also have 4 chairs. No diy experience haha.

I need a 6 seater but seems a shame and unnecessary spend to buy one. Can I get some sort of table top/mdf to drill into it then get a bench or two more chairs and either paint or use a table cloth. Could this work without looking shit?

Please when answering assume I know absolutely nothing about home making/ furnishing / diy

Depending on how your table is made, it may be easier to replace the top entirely, especially if it's the type where the legs simply screw into the tabletop. Alternatively, sell it and buy a new one with the proceeds!

It's not nice enough to sell. Years of paint and scratches etc. I'll a look at how the top is fixed

top isnt easy enough to get off really by the looks
