Which wall to be the feature wall - diagram included

Hi

I'm repainting a small bedroom to be a spare room.

It's very small - the bed in the diagram is single size.

I was originally going to paint all walls except number '1' in a light colour with a deep blue on wall '1' - like in the hopefully attached photo.

I've realised that with the window and radiator there won't be much blue to see.

Which wall/walls would you paint with the darker colour?

I'm procrastinating here - any help to move me on appreciated!

Being such a small room, I'd keep the dark colour to a
Minimum and paint it on wall 1. Then tie in accessories of the same colour

I agree, a dark colour brings the wall towards you, so if you were to paint walls 2 or 3 this would make the room look narrower.

Thanks both - it's a shame because the blue is lush!!

Always the headboard wall IMO

I'd do either just 3, or alternatively 1, 3 and the little return wall where your chest or drawers will go (leaving 2, 4 and the bit of wall where the door is in the light colour).

Does it need to be a feature wall? They're a bit dated now.
Could you put up a picture rail, and have the darker colour under the picture rail, matching the wall space above the rail to the ceiling? It's a more current way of not committing to 4 walls in full colour.
Picture rails are really easy to install with grab adhesive and a nail gun.

Id paint the wall down the side of the bed. Or be really daring and paint the whole room in dark blue!

TiaraBoo · 31/08/2022 20:16

I’d do it exactly like the picture!

CatRatSplat · 31/08/2022 20:23

Be different - do wall 1 but do a small adjoining triangle into the side walls from wall 1 of the dark blue.

GOODCAT · 01/09/2022 20:24

Or paint the inside of the door

I'd do the whole thing in deep blue! I find small rooms painted in dark colours look so lush and luxurious - we've done it to our bathroom (small, no natural light), as I thought trying to make it look big with a pale colour would just highlight how small it is, and it's fabulous.

I’d do it all the dark blue, including the ceiling, skirting, architrave and door. Lean into the colour block! Make it a dark and cosy cave. Lamp by the bed for reading.

Thanks for all the replies... now i just have to make a decision!
