Curtain position

I want to make my kitchen warmer for winter and want to add curtains to my French doors. The kitchen is long and narrow and the doors are on the narrow wall, but annoyingly off centre. My idea is to run the curtains across the whole of the wall to the corners. That means the curtains could be pushed out of the way when open, possibly just on one side as well. Otherwise you get weird curtain bits when the curtain is open, with just a small section of wall showing on either side, but annoyingly different amounts -I think that would look cluttered and fiddly and would bring attention to the fact that the doors are off centre. When the curtains are closed, they’d cover the whole of that wall, which I think would look better. That end of the kitchen has a desk on one side and a sofa on the other, so no actual kitchen stuff. DH thinks I should just put the curtains around the actual doors like normal people. I’ve had these curtains for three years, and they have still not been put up! What would be best? I keep doubting myself.

You are absolutely correct! It’ll look better if it’s symmetrical. Also being able to take them all the way back and totally out of the door frames will be much better when you want the light or to use the doors or have them open all day. How much space do you have at each side? Could you leave a bit but equal?

You are right. Exactly what I would do. Added bonus of being to one side is that they are less likely to get trapped in the door/be all blowy when the does are opened - happens even with tie backs/hooks with long curtains.

Yes I'm with you too. That will look a lot better. And if you can push the whole curtain to one side, might that even up the symmetry?

I have two curtains at my front door but they get drawn back to one side where the wall is. Better than a single curtain as I can get in and out of the door whilst the curtains are more or less closed.
