Anyone painted ikea metod kitchen cabinets?

Ours are 8 years old and are looking pretty rubbish. Wish I hadn't gone for white!
It would cost approx: £8/900 to replace the doors and handles :(
So...my next great plan (!) Is that we could paint them...
I've found a Pinterest article of an American lady who did it.
We'd need de greaser, primer and paint and new handles.
Then there's the colour!
Kitchen is currently white units, matt chrome handles walnut effect worktop.
White walls and black metro tile splashback.
I'm debating dove grey (I love grey) for the cupboard fronts?
Can't really afford to change anything else.
Mad idea or not? :)

I've used rustoleim chalk paint for our bedroom furniture to good effect

Not these ones, but our IKEA ones that are similar to the ENHET type. We had them about 13 years ago and repainted with Farrow and Ball Dimpse in 2019. It went on really well after an undercoat of primer. It's starting to flake a bit now after 3 years but it's been a good stop gap until we can afford new cupboard fronts!

I can't do anything about the carcasses (which will stay white) so am wondering if it would look OK with white carcass grey door and black handles?

I think it would be fine, our carcasses are still white too. Good luck op, don't forget before and after photos!
