White or magnolia for rest of room?

Thinking of painting the chimney breast sage green ( or duck egg blue). Rest of room is magnolia at moment but needs repaint. Will white be too harsh? Stick with magnolia?

How bright is the room? I find magnolia quite dull, to me it seems to stuck the light out of a room, I like white in the but perhaps a little stark.

Could you go for an off white in a complimentary shade to what you are painting the breast, if you chose sage, perhaps something like Dulux Apple White, which just has a hint of green. A very light shade of Grey would look nice with Sage too, Dulux Rocksalt. Even a light beige, Dulux Natural Hessian would look lovely with sage, it’s a warmer shade than Magnolia and looks good IMHO.

@Roselilly36 thankyou so much! Exactly the advice I needed. I'll have a look at all the paints mentioned.

Why not do it all sage green? Much nicer than white/off-white

Look at Falling Feather from Wickes...it's like a light stone colour. I've just paired this with their pastel olive in my hall and I'm really pleased with it.
