Kitchen cupboard revamp

I am desperate to paint my kitchen (cupboards / walls) and possibly put in a new worktop and sink. My DH said he would paint cupboards (and walls) himself, but I’m not sure how difficult painting the cupboards would be? We have a kitchen diner and I really want to make it look nicer (this kitchen was put in by house builders over 10 years ago and I’ve always hated it!).

I have absolutely no colour co-ordination whatsoever, and have been browsing Pinterest and Google for kitchen ideas!

Can anyone suggest colours for the cupboards / walls that would tie in nicely with the tiles we already have?

Ideally, I would like a couple kitchen blinds (dual aspect kitchen) and kitchen door curtains, so any ideas you guys have would be great!

Also, would it be better getting DH to paint the cupboards (I’m guessing they are melamine?) or should we get someone “proper” in to do it?

Pics attached of my current (awful) kitchen; cupboard / worktop / tiles.

Yes you can paint nowadays basically anything- however for cupboards you need to sand them slightly and use the primer as a base.

There's special paint for cupboards, ie Johnstones, or Frenchic, probably more- those are the ones I'm considering for our kitchen revamp.

Your splash backpack tiles are lovely, I wouldn't change them to be honest, for the cupboards you can go off white, cream colour with some new lovely handles.
Worktop makeover is tricky I guess, as you can use some vinyl films however not sure about the durability. If you really hate it, then change it- depends on the size of your kitchen and budget you have?

Thanks @RosieRoww - I would love a “country” themed kitchen so cream cupboards with nice gold handles or something - that would work with the tiles wouldn’t it? I was thinking of using WorkTop Express for a new worktop and new sink. My budget isn’t massive - probably a few hundred over a couple months! Thanks for the advice 🙂

I think a nice cream/stone colour for the cupboards - you need to work with the tiles. There's so many good quality cupboard paint around at the moment.
You then add a little colour to the kitchen through your blind/door curtains.
