Kitchen colours!

I want to get my cupboards in the kitchen painted (currently a faux-pine melamine cupboard which looks rubbish). I have a black rubbishy worktop that I want to replace also.

Question I have is what colours are most popular for a large-ish kitchen? I want to repaint walls as well to something light (thinking maybe a pale sage or cream) and I have brown small tiles on the wall that will need to tie in.

I don’t have a huge budget so can’t replace the kitchen so I was thinking painting the cupboard doors (or getting someone to do it properly for me) and then getting a new worktop.

Any advice on colours would be appreciated as I have no clue about colours!

It depends on orientation of windows - south, west etc. I personally prefer lighter kitchens but have seen some stunning navy blue cupboard revamps with white or pink splashbacks. Sage Greens seem popular and safer. There is a large following on facebook of a brand called Frenchic paint and they have some good photos and tips for inspiration .

Depends on how much light comes into your kitchen. Mine is quite dark so we have pale yellow walls and light pine cupboards. Worktops are near white. Otherwise it would be just too dark and depressing!
