Sisal alternatives?

Hello there,

we need to replace our hall stairs and landings carpet and I’d like something neutral that will go with whatever colour I do the walls over the years (I quite like I change it often)!

I’d like a sisal or sea grass type, but understand they are a nightmare for stains.

can anyone please recommend other carpet or man made options that have the natural/textured look? Needs to be AHRC wearing for high traffic area and preferably flecked - I only hoover one a week!

many thanks

Can't speak from personal experience, but I have read good things about The Unnatural Flooring Company. I will be checking out their samples when it comes to replacing the stair and landing carpets - am so over wool and the battering it takes from dogs and huge, trainer-wearing DS and friends.

Brilliant thank you - I went to see samples of this today, it looks perfect, and not crazy expensive.

Great! well, let us know if you go ahead and how it turns out! I have replacing sofas and paying for new chest of drawers and wardrobe for DS on the list before I get to stair carpets, so I am sure you will get there before me.

I have this! Up my stairs and in my dining room - the stairs are in the dining room iyswim.
Installed in Feb. so far so good.

Oh and I'm a dog owner too. It feels reassuringly natural underfoot.

BigSkies2022 · 04/08/2022 17:15

OK Grim! glad to hear it. Have you had to clean it with pet spray or similar yet? Our dog is housetrained, but still vomits from time to time, and scoots occasionally, so pretty harsh cleaning products are still a necessity, and these really don't do wool carpets any favours.

So I’ve got my quote in, not as crazy as anticipated so I think will be going ahead. Just can’t decide between the totally plain sisal style (eg Burlington) or one of the New York range patterns… I do like a stripe… decisions decisions!

It’s ordered!

for anyone interested, the New York range is much less comfortable underfoot, feels more like an office floor. I’ve gone for New England range. So excited! Will post some pics when it’s installed next month.

thanks for the advice - really have high hopes for the product!

@MamaDuckling just looking at ordering one of these carpets and wondered how yours is doing a few years down the line?

MamaDuckling · 29/12/2024 07:24

It’s doing really well - a couple of frays at cut edges but I suspect that was my installer rather than the product (I didn’t go with the retailers installer I went with a third party), but the carpet itself is fantastic, looks good as new. My son was violently sick on it days after it was installed and it all came out no problems at all. I would highly recommended.
