Have a 700x500 gas hob. Looking to move to induction hob. Electrician said we should get a plug in as there is a socket there (hob is on kitchen island). But I can't find any this size - only square smaller size. Anyone have one? Might be a lost cause as more costly to put in new cabling for a hard wired one or replace worktop for smaller fit.

My mum has a neff plug in induction hob. She lives alone so it is fine for her but when she is using all four zones when she has company the power is insufficient for all zones to be on higher settings. If you are a family I think a hardwired hob is the way to go and even if you do find a plug in induction hob to fit you'll probably regret getting it. I know hardwired will involve more cost initially but it will give you more choice. Perhaps your electrician is being lazy in encouraging you to get a plug in hob and not hardwiring one in as he will be aware of it's limitations and maybe not fancy doing the work involved in hardwiring?
