John Ryan origins might be within your price range-we got an Artisan Naturals mattress from them in their discounted section 4 years ago and it’s the best one I’ve ever had. The Artisan ones are expensive, our cost 1k at the time and I thought it was a fortune. Their Origins don’t have the same natural materials but the same ‘feel’ IYSWIM. If you prefer a foam mattress, a friend tells me the Emma ones are good.

Tried the ikea ones recently in store. The firmest ones are very comfortable and I think they're great quality.

The ikea ones are brilliant. We bought an Otty last year, they are the firmest of the mattress in a box and it’s almost too firm 😂 But you get 100 nights to trial it so can send it back (we didn’t, it’s still very comfy)

We have a John Ryan Artisan Naturals in medium but feels firm to me. We also have a topper on it as I like soft cushioning with a firm base.

If you call them up they offer great advice about what to choose.

After recommendations from here I'm waiting for delivery of a John Ryan's Artisan mattress...went for a zip and link super king. They have been fantastic with all my questions. We are replacing a worn out 13year old IKEA mattress after some recent back surgery so I wanted to get it right!

We’ve just got a simba pro. It’s weirdly soft but very firm. It’s like it’s firm all over but with a lovely soft topper. I’m very pleased with it.
