We are looking to upgrade from our IKEA dining table to a solid wood table, preferably extending,.to host family over the holidays etc. Any suggestions of where to look that won't be unreasonably priced?
Thanks

Try Next. They have a sale on at the moment and I think there's a solid wood table going for £250.

Try a second hand one. We got a v heavy Indian rosewood one from eBay with 6 chairs for £80. The same thing was in John Lewis at the time for about £1000 without chairs! Bargain!

I just checked. It's the Hendricks table and was previously £625.

We also got one second hand on facebook market place, seats six but extends to eight or ten plus eight chairs - solid oak for about £200. Absolute bargain.

This one? It’s just gone up £250 in price though in the last couple of months so may be a bit pricey.

I’d avoid the darker wood version. It has a coloured lacquer on the wood. Even the model in the shop had chips in the lacquer which showed the lighter wood underneath.

Etsy. You can message and ask for your own spec.

We’ve just bought a beautiful one from here

You can add extra leaves, we got a 5ft that extends to 7ft

Thank you for all of your suggestions (and links!) I'm checking them out now. I've burned my fingers buying used furniture before l, and I'm wary of going down that route again

We also got a secondhand Oak Furniture Land solid wood extendable dining table from Facebook Marketplace for £120, it's in near mint condition. We had to pay a man in a van £40 to transport it down for us but still a bargain given the same table still retails at near £1000 new.

Sorry - it’s gone up £150 not £250 in the last couple of months.

Got my at oak furniture land. Really good quality. Got furniture with them in 2016, didn’t know what to expect when I went in the shop, but all still in great condition.

Yes, this is the problem with anything that is a veneer or engineered wood, it starts peeling or stains really easily and looks tired in a year or so..

I was going to order the dark version but thought it looked poor quality in real life. The lacquer they’d used looked plasticky, as well as chipped.

V pleased with the oak one though, although £900 was a much better price.

Wayfair has about a million tables. Mine is solid wood with iron legs. Looks great and really hard wearing.
