Painting shower tiles

The previous owners of our house decided mosaic tiles were just the thing for our shower. There is more grout than tile in there and now we all have showers rather than baths, it gets very grubby very quickly and is a bastard to clean.

I painted tiles in my first house but it was for a shower over a bath and one careful woman occupant(!). Am I mad to think of painting the tiles in our shower? Also, can I get away with painting them without stripping out the sealant first which I would dread doing?

How are you cleaning it out of interest?
Flash with bleach is excellent for keeping grout sparkling. I spray our tiles & grout with this twice a week in the morning. It just gets a wipe and rinsed off in the evening before I jump in the shower and it’s always sparkling. Been here 5 years and never had to scrub. I don’t think I’d paint mosaic, I think it could look awful if there was even a few less than perfectly flat squares.

I will try that @LetMeInYourWindow , thanks. I use dettol power and pure which I can now only get at the pound shop and then occasionally the dettol mould & mildew remover which is ok but I still have to scrub to get the dirt/mould off. I will try the flash one.

tbh I don't care what it looks like really as long as it doesn't peel off where it meets the sealant iyswim. I painted 60s tiles in my first house which would probably have some retro appeal now! But it was so effective.

Mix bicarbonate of soda with bleach to form a paste and paint on with a paintbrush. Leave over night then rinse off. Fantastic for restoring grout.
