Navy curtains-what colour walls?

Hi everyone 🙂 I’m reposting this from chat to see if I can get some more replies. I need to ask the hive mind a question.

I’ve just bought these curtains and now I’m not sure what colour to paint my walls. I was going to go for pale taupe/greige/ biscuit but that was before the navy curtains! The room is west facing with two large windows and there’s a big pine tree outside that tends to reflect greenish light. We’ve moved in fairly recently so the walls are currently magnolia.

please help

Navy curtains-what colour walls?

We have 2 windows, navy curtains, off white/very pale grey walls on 3 walls and a navy feature wall. Then get your lampshades and a couple of cushions to match one of the other colours in the curtains.

I would pick the lime green out of the pattern on the curtains and use that. I suspect most people wouldn't.

tootiredtospeak · 05/07/2022 21:38

I would go green but that's my favourite colour.

clpsmum · 05/07/2022 21:40

I'd go for green too. Something bold like Dulux proud peacock (I only know it because DH has it in his office).

Bancha by Farrow and Ball.

purplecorkheart · 05/07/2022 21:49

To be honest I would leave it a few months. You mentioned that you have recently moved in. I would see how they work with the current colour give the natural light changes that will be happening as the season changes before deciding

JennieTheZebra · 06/07/2022 07:00

Thanks so much 😊 I was moving towards pale sage green, but maybe white/ very light grey is better?! I worry that cream is a bit too “traditional” looking and that’s not really me… maybe @purplecorkheart is right that I should leave it for a little bit, but the magnolia is really hideous 🥴
@clpsmum yes, they’re beautiful! I really wanted the Sara Miller green curtains with ring tail lemurs on, but I would have had to have those made and £500 on custom curtains is really not in the budget right now. As far as compromises go, these are really not too bad ❤️

I have Dulux fine cream on three walls and Hannah Nunn navy wallpaper on another but my curtains are plain. We have a west facing room and a pale grey (Dulux timeless) made the room feel cold/depressing.

@JennieTheZebra are they do your living room? If they are can I ask what colour your sofa is? I'm ordering a new one and can't decide what to go for! My room is being decorated and accessorised around the curtains!! I haven't seen the other curtains but I'm going to look now! I love her stuff

SkankingWombat · 06/07/2022 07:46

They look lovely OP!
I would pick one of the jewelled colours from the curtains, although the dark grey in the picture you've posted looks good too. I wouldn't choose a light/neutral colour, as I think it would lessen the curtains and make them seem blander.

JennieTheZebra · 06/07/2022 10:03

@clpsmum
my sofa is charcoal grey but I have jewel coloured cushions (hot pink, teal, purple) for the winter and slightly lighter (pale blue, sand, pale pink) for the summer. I’m thinking I might switch out my sand coloured cushion for a sage one to pick out the green from the curtains. I think a darker sofa is the way to go tbh. I hope that helps 🙂

Tha k you. The one I am leaning towards is charcoal grey and was planning to do the same as you cushion wise. I'm now debating keeping my navy wall but repainting the other three!
