Help! Sofa choices - eek!

Hi
Posting for traffic (hopefully!)
After a myriad of issues with various sofa companies going back to October last year!! We find ourselves sofaless!

I went to IKEA a couple of days ago and found the perfect sofa, and it's only a 5 day wait (compared to 17 week wait from other companies!)

I'm stuck on the colours,

I LOVE the beige colour.... but would we be totally mad? We have 7 month old twins. Our living room isn't the main room in the house and they have their own play room... at the moment it's just the chill out space when they are in bed and it's a separate room from the kitchen... but I'm still worried!

The covers are washable.

The other option is also photographed but I'm worried it might be a bit too blue for our north facing living room...

Any help or advice appreciated!

we bought a sofa with cream cover when we had small kids.... big mistake 😵- the second colour looks grey in my screen?

wondersofus · 29/06/2022 06:34

Haha @DomusAurea i can see that it would be a mistake! I am naively assuming our babies won't be in the living room much and when they will, will happily adhere to a no food and drink rule!! Unlikely I know 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the other colour a dark blackish blue but I'm not sure how it would look in our room x

No advise as to which colour to choose as it depends on your decor.

If you do go for the beige option make sure you get a spare set of covers and use throws to protect the bits that will get grubby especially the arms.

The gunnared beige btw is much lighter than in the sample btw.
We have it in a corner sofa bed in the playroom and have had since Ds was about 7 months. It just looks light cream. It’s still cream. the other cream looked more yellow in store

This is the gunnared beige - vimle sofa

Good tip @ThePoetsWife re spare covers!!

@Caspianberg gorgeous room!! So warm and inviting. How does the material hold up to day to day stains, does it clean up well with a wipe etc? Thanks for sharing x

We had cream with young children, ridiculous choice. Please don't. Go for something that doesn't show everyday marks.

bravotango · 29/06/2022 07:37

Spare covers and a big washable throw for all day everyday and it'll be fine! Just take the throw off when you have people round

Caspianberg · 29/06/2022 07:50

@wondersofus - it seems fine. We do have a recycled leather main sofa in living room which is indestructible. But also have cream toy ottoman/footstool and arm chairs in there and they all wipe fine also.

Ds and us tbh though don’t generally eat in either room with sofas, so it’s not too bad. He’s definitely wiped those kids oat bars and spilt some milk on the cream one at some point and it’s been fine. The cat goes on it to sleep, and it’s also been jumped on regularly. Like you, we also looked elsewhere, but with covid restrictions at the time, and the prices, we couldn’t really beat the ikea for ticking most the boxes.
it also has huge lift up storage as we got the corner version.

We've just ditched our cream sofas. DD was 4/5 when we got them. They were trashed by the time she turned 7. Luckily the investment wasn't too high for us - just new covers on a very old sofa, so I didn't mind too much replacing the whole lot. I argued against cream, I said it would be an awful idea, but DH was determined.

Our new ones are a dark steel grey, but it looks more like a dusty navy in the north light of our living room. I'm thrilled with them. It's a softer, more muted colour despite being dark, which I think is the key for north light.
