What to do with this bit of wall?

I’m in the process of painting the bottom half of my hall, stairs & landing walls navy (dado rail down to skirting). I’ve got to this bit of wall that has to stay white as it opens out on to the stairs. I thought I’d paint the dado and skirting the same as the rest but I’m not sure it looks right now. Do I keep it navy so it matches the rest of the woodwork or paint it white so it matched the wall? Eventually I’ll put a large plant of something there so it won’t look so obvious.

I have the same in my house, except the bit between dado and skirting is tongue and groove. Therefore, that bit was painted in my house, which looks better. It was made easier in my place because there is a half newel post on the wall, providing a clear separation. Could you try putting a thin strip of wood in to match the banister?

Looks lovely, I would paint it

I agree, stick a strip of wood on the wall below the bannister and then paint that area dark. You could probably use a bit of decorative moulding and some no more nails, nothing tricky.
