Hi guys,

I'm lucky enough to be getting a new kitchen, there's loads of choices out there but I'm very indesisive so I need your help!

What kitchen features/ design ideas do you have and absolutely love?

There are loads of pictures of toasters/kettles inside the cupboard does anyone have this?

Do you have anything in your kitchen that you would recommend getting? Is there anything you regret?

Thanks in advance xxx

Pantry cupboard over counter top, hide coffee machine/kettle etc behind the doors!

Had a friend who had extendable sockets that came out of the counter top??! Useful to keep things neater

Yes inside a countertop cupboard and I love it! Toaster only though, I think a kettle would make it damp inside? Microwave also hides inside and so does kitchen roll and random clutter.

Drawers instead of cupboards. Hold so much more and so easy to find everything. We store our pans, crockery and dry food in 3 sets of pan drawers. And have a 4th set for more pans and misc. Just make sure you have one cupboard or extra deep drawer somewhere to hold tall stuff (cereal, bottles).

Very few wall cupboards (I am short).

Boiling water tap, love it. It’s needed a fair bit of servicing though.

Narrow cupboard that pulls out either side of cooker. Brilliant for keeping all the herbs, spices, oils etc close at hand but off the counter.

Hot tap.

Bin with sections for recycling and a shelf above for bin bags etc.

Big deep pull out drawers where I put all the big stuff - mixer, slow cooker, etc

I have the pop up plugs PP mentions. I'm not sure I love them. Think I might have preferred under counter/on side of counter as they are pretty much always popped up.

I have toaster/kettle inside cupboard. The kitchen designer raved about it but I expected there to be some sort of ventilation in it. I ended up getting the shelf cut in half so it’s not as deep, so the heat of the toaster isn’t directly underneath but has room to disperse.

I do like being able to close the door on it all when it’s not in use; it’s a very calm space, but it does seem a bit daft all the same.

so I go against the crowd and say that I prefer cupboards to drawers. Or at least, have a good mix. With drawers, you can lose about 5cm of space at the sides because you've got the carcass (that would make a cupboard) and then runners and then the walls of the drawer. So while you get better space at the back, you get less at the sides with drawers.

make sure you have a good space for trash / recycling.
make sure you have space to have a hand-drying towel and a tea towel.

I keep all appliances out - never seen the point of having them hidden. I have a 'breakfast corner' with the toaster & the breadboard and a basket of fruit etc.

build in a clutter corner for things like phone chargers and recipe books and paperwork that always accumulates in the kitchen.

quooker tap so no kettle! Enough cupboard/drawer space to hide everything away and super efficient extractor are my must haves! All appliance switches are housed in one cupboard so only sockets on the wall and glass splash backs.

why anyone would keep loads of stuff out on the workspace is beyond me - creates more cleaning!

Other people cooking is the thing I love most

Lived in a house with a walk-in food pantry once, that was lovely!

In my current kitchen I love my enormous wide deep drawers - one for pans, one for all the self-multiplying plastic tubbery

And if I ever get to design my own kitchen I’m having counter tops at the right height for me (ie lowered!)
