Washing machine sizes

I need a new washing machine but the one i want is 636 mm in depth.
my worktops are around 600 mm so it will stick out which seems weird.
are my units smaller than normal?
have washing machines got bigger
i have no place other than the kitchen to put it - what do other people do?

Sounds about normal if you're a it buying integrated appliances.

Just to add, standard size worktops tend to come in either 600 or 650mm widths, so yours are the standard size.
