Hello, we have a cottage style house and have recently discovered that unspderneath the peeling paint there is a stone surround round round some of the windows which makes it look nice and less like a bad pub. Dh wants to paint the whole house bright white cos it’s cheap and easy..I think it gets really bright when the sun hits it and it hurts your eyes, and can’t help thinking it’s a shame with the lovely stone bits. Can anyone recommend and off white or gentle colour exterior paint that’s not yellow like magnolia but just not a harsh bright white - and is easy to buy as Dh gets a bit impatient!
thank you!

My Parents’ house is white, I agree with you on the dazzling effect of white on a sunny or even a bright day. It can be really unbearable, even with sunglasses.

I would love to have a pink house, but that might not suit your DH! How about a very pale pink or blue?

I'd say pink too. Or terracotta.

Ooh all lovely ideas. I don’t suppose anyone knows an off the shelf paint that’s a nice colour like these? I know farrow and ball do an exterior paint, but ahem. We are more b and m bargains budget😄we bought a tub of white sand tex and it is WHITE! Agree with you seeingadistance I now keep sunglasses for guests and it’s still so bright even though it’s mucky white atm!

My mum just painted her house Potters Pink which is a Dulux heritage colour and it's really subtle

You can get the exterior paint mixed up at Brewers or Dulux trade Center or wherever

Cleanbedlinen12 · 30/05/2022 21:34

Oh that’s really helpful, thank you - I didn’t know you could get them mixed, though durrr, obviously you must be able to!
thank you will have a nice cozy mooch right now.

Would you consider painting the walls white but maybe paint the window surrounds a dark grey for a bit of contrast?

Or Sandtex do one call Chalk Hill which is an off white I think

Thank you! Have just googled and see they do tester pots! Am so pleased, I couldn’t work out why I could only see massive pots of white. Off to b and q, woopie!
I was going to paint the surrounds, but half are stone which is nice and the other half are wierd brick, which isnt! Not actually sure what to do with the surrounds. May leave the stone ones and paint the others stone coloured..sounds a bit odd though.
funny how choosing colours looks so easy on Pinterest!
