New sofa or second hand

Due to the crazy housing market I am going to rent in the right area but it's only a flat. I have almost all the furniture I need. The only thing I'm missing is a sofa. I dumped mine as my alcoholic exh had ruined it. You wouldn't have known looking at it.
I was hoping to buy a new sofa when i buy as I should have a lot more space. My dilemma is do I get a second hand sofa and try and put my paranoia aside that someone could be selling a secretly manky sofa and then get a new bigger one when I move or do I buy a cheap new one which I then sell or use in a bedroom etc? I can only fit in a 2 seater and I feel I am lost down a rabbit hole looking at the options. I have a 4 year old and will be living on the first floor if that affects anything.

Have a dig around on Facebook marketplace- I've found a seller local to me who sells returned sofas - so half the price of new

Second hand sofas are dirt cheap compared to new mainly because you need to hire a man and a van to get it back to yours. I'd buy without any hesitation - you can get something far superior in quality compared to the cost of a new cheaply made sofa.

You can buy from a well known flat pack furniture shop that sells affordable brand new sofas.

Definitely look on Facebook marketplace.
I just listed my old sofa for free. It’s fabric is snagged and a paler mauve colour..but it is robust and useable
i thought someone like you might be glad of it to use whilst waiting for a new one or until saving up
no takers. Not a squeak.
such a shame. Now paying council to remove..seems such a shame no one else can make use of it

I also have a new sofa that I can’t shift - barely used - beautiful tweed and leather chesterfield - it’s just too big for my room. No idea how to find any takers

My friend posted her sofa fir free so I ended up with that. It's really comfortable and I will list in Facebook for free when I move.
