Would you put a fireplace in this room, and if so, where?

This is my living room from various angles.

I'd really like a fireplace of some kind, but I'm not sure which wall to put it on or which type to get.

Looking at my floor plan, I think the wall with the alcove has space behind it to knock in a fireplace for a log burner, but I'm not sure I can be bothered with that hassle.

Would a normal fire place fitted to one of the existing walls look okay?

I'm also thinking maybe I can't put anything on that wall, as then my tv would be at the opposite wall and that would be weird?

So do I put it on the wall where the tv is and remove the radiator?

Opinions very much welcome!

Why do you want one? Heat, aesthetics or both?

I don't see an obvious place for one tbh, not with current furniture and doors/windows etc.

We don't have one and I much prefer it

What sort of fire? Could you mount the tv above? Otherwise next to each other.

If you want it to look normal put it on the wall adjoining your neighbour (I'm assuming one does by the look of the room).

Lovely room. I’d get rid of the radiator and put it to the left of the TV.

@jackstini

For aesthetics, really. Love the look of one as a focal point and also for Christmas!Grin

I'd have to move my tv ariel point to have the tv on the other wall in front of the alcove, and I don't know if having it in front of the alcove would look wrong.

I will be screening off my little office space in some way, whatever else I do, as I know it makes the tool look untidy.

Put it on whatever wall you share with the neighbouring building

Sorry, cross posts!

The wall with the alcove is shared with the neighbouring flat. Current tv wall is next to my bedroom.

I don't like the look of tv's above fireplaces, so would definitely be keeping the tv stand.

I wouldn’t bother with a fireplace, your living room looks lovely as it it. I love the navy walls!

Thanks @Mummyneedsacoffee Need to give the previous owners credit for that! I was going to change it, but it's grown on me now.

I’d only put a fireplace in if you also built a chimney breast, otherwise it could look a bit “stuck on”. Do you have room for a fireplace? Between the alcove, doors, radiator and window I think it would be a bit busy.

I don’t think this is necessarily true. I have lived in several houses where the chimney breast is on the outside of the wall.

Yes, I'm starting to think that despite it being a big space, maybe the layout just won't work. Measured out the size on the wall where the tv is and it there wouldn't be much room between tv and fireplace. I think my tv is too big to let me do anything, although any smaller would feel too small in the room.

I also like the colour in the room.
Can I just ask why is a fireplace so important? I can see the 'Christmas' reason though. 😊
We are moving and I want to remove the fireplace from the front room and bedroom because of a) space and b) can't use it anyway (so no lovely fire in winter).
Am considering keeping the fireplace in the front room but without the chimney and installing an electric one. Is it a bad idea? 🤔

@KMZ I just like them, always have. Wouldn't saying removing yours is a bad idea if there's another look you prefer Smile

Tenement flat? @getlamped Our old living room was the same layout, I miss my wee living room cupboard!! We had an electric fire on the alcove wall, but we also had the tv wall mounted above it. If you're not keen on tvs above then, tv in the bay window?

You could put it on the wall where the small sofa is and move the small sofa in front of the window.
