Blackout curtain lining

Afternoon all..

Sleepless mornings when sun decides its time to rise - looking for a cheap way to create a blackout. So.. as we already have vertical blinds installed, i thought about getting some blackout curtain lining (in black) and just attaching it each night to top of blind frame. Is the blackout lining material sufficient on its own for this purpose?

Thanks!

I bought this lining and it works really well, they do lots of sizes, our windows are ridiculously wide so we were really pleased to get this size.

you do get light creeping in from the top of the curtain pole/rail but not sure that could be avoided tbh.

Ds1 is at uni and has a roller blind in his uni accommodation which lets it lots of light down the sides. Our solution was to attach a heavy duty clear Command Hook to either side of the window aperture and positioned above the window aperture.

I took a lightweight blackout curtain from Ikea, (you can use blackout lining too but I weighed it to make sure the command hooks could take the weight) attached a curtain ring with a clip to the curtain and hooked one side. Made sure it was nice and taut and attached the other curtain clip.

He unhooks the curtain ring off one side every morning, you could of course remove it altogether just clipping it up every night. Works incredibly well. The Command hooks can be removed leaving no marks as long as you follow the instructions clearly.

Blackout lining doesn't have to be black!

It should be enough on its own, though you may get stray light around the edges.
