Stair covering that doesn't need hoovering

I HATE hoovering the stairs and dream of just being able to wipe down instead, as that way they might actually get cleaned. However I don't want plain wood as our stairs are typical narrow, steep Victorian.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an alternative, wipe-clean stair covering? I can't seem to find anything suitable

I’ve got a handheld shark that makes hoovering the stairs really easy. Probably easier than wiping the stairs clean with a cloth.

I have the typical steep victorian ones and I removed the carpet and painted them with floor paint. They get filthy quickly thanks to DPet but at least you can see it.
DPet has a favourite step.
