Can I put a console table between a radiator and the back of the sofa?

We have a large mid-century style corner sofa. The left hand bit backs onto a long radiator. We've previously had lamps which overhang the sofa there, but my toddler wants to touch/swing on them and so I'm selling them and trying to find an alternative.

Can I move it a foot or so away from the radiator and put a console table with table lamps on it into the gap? I think console tables behind sofas often look great, but maybe not against the wall. As everything's on floorboards I'm also wondering if I'd need to find a way to stop the sofa creeping back and eventually making the console table and lamps bang against the wall. Maybe I should have put the toddler up for sale instead.

Lol at putting the toddler up for sale 😂
I ended up boxing the radiator in behind sofa

Or a floating shelf?

How about a radiator cover? That would fix to the wall, still allow airflow, and you’d only see the shelf anyway? although it may not be wide enough for a lamp, but anything on the shelf/table would be at risk from toddler hands sooner or later!

I think you're right - the radiator's extra-long so I think I'm going to get a local carpenter to quote for a long table-like shelf.

We have a radiator cover behind our couch. The top is as wide as a normal shelf so we fit a lamp on it no problem x

Sorry didn't mean the 'x' at the end

I'll swap you a nice console table for the toddler
