Floor paint for stairs

I've decided to give up on sanding our stair treads and risers back to wood. I'm about a quarter of the way through and it's a huge job and I just know it's never going to be finished!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a floor paint that has lasted on stairs for a while? We're going for nearly black and I'm worried about chipping. I've already done a lot of the prep so it will have a good base, then primer/undercoat, sanding back between coats etc.

Johnstone's Flortred is fantastic.

Dark may well chip regardless of quality.

Ah brilliant - and yes, dark is riskier I know. Will have to patch in regularly..

Anyone else with any experience? Bad stories as welcome as good ones!

I painted my stairs using Little Greene floor paint. The main colour was Loft white with a light grey runner, which I forget the name of. The grey was always a bit slippery.

When I got bored of the light grey runner, I repainted it using F&B Railings floor paint. It’s not at all slippery.

By the way neither has chipped, but no shoes are worn in the house so maybe that helps.
