Cheap flooring

Friend has finally got her own home after leaving an abusive relationship. As it is through a housing by association she has no carpets/curtains etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas for cheap flooring which will keep the home cosy and look ok?

Carpet tiles can be quite cheap. Or have a look on second hand/freebie sites. I bought some used laminate from a shop that was changing to carpet for £20 from Marketplace. I had to clean it up first but it’s good quality and looks lovely in my bedroom.
