Wool duvet - can you recommend which brand is best please?!

There are 3 main runners I think:-

  1. Baavet
  2. Wool Room
  3. Devon Duvets

I am seriously considering a wool duvet, as am totally hacked off with my current Feather and Down. Its only a few years old and all the stuffing has fallen to the sides! Admittedly, must have been a rubbish brand, as my other similar duvet doesn't do this. Hence, my concern with a decent quality, decent brand this time.

I want to buy a winter wool duvet as I feel the cold. Any thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated.

I have a Wool Room wool duvet - it'll do but honestly my down duvet will always be better - lighter, drapes better, sounds better - so less cruel - I'll learn to live with it - but a few nights under a down duvet has reminded me why they are so bloody lovely.

thank you, yes, its tricky Chirpy isn't it? I also like the cuddly-draping-cosy-lightness of a down duvet. Maybe I just bought a rubbish brand online down and feather duvet for the annoying problem I had though (and I can't find the receipt!).

I might look in John Lewis next time I'm in London and see the "feel" of the wool duvets. I get very cold at night and like heaps of duvets on me! Maybe I will have both.

I have the all seasons wool duvet from Soak and Sleep, it's 2 duvets that you can use together or individually. I love it, had it a few years now and couldn't go back to feathers.

Ive been using wool duvets for many years and recently bought from the wool room - love them. Also have their mattresses.

I bought a Baavet. And also a summer one.

I’ve since bought one for my parents. And have recommended them to others. And they’ve been as happy with them as I am.

I don’t think I’d change from them now.

Appreciate your sharing your experiences, thank you.

Devon Duvets here. I had to send our Baavet back as it was yellow toned, which showed through white bedding and made it look grubby. It also smelled awful, like a farmyard. No such problems with Devon Duvets

RandomMess · 04/04/2022 17:50

Got mine from soak and sleep, absolutely love it.

Qwill · 04/04/2022 17:55

Devon has been great for us. And they sell them in JL so you can get the points if you have a card.

StandUpStraight · 04/04/2022 17:56

I have a soak and sleep one. I love it for the temperature regulation but the outer fabric is noisy. It’s like a cotton poplin and it rustles. It’s a few years old now so I don’t know if they are still the same, but I have thought about looking for a different one as it does drive me crazy because my husband moves so much.

We have a wool room mattress topper which really helps us to stay warm in the winter
Will be getting a duvet next year when we have some savings

bare · 04/04/2022 18:18

I've got the JL one which is Devon Duvets. I've just bought the ikea one for my dd and it seems lovely as well?

steppingout · 04/04/2022 18:25

Ours is Devon Duvets and we've been really pleased with it. There is a very slight rustle but it's wearing off (and I actually rather like it, it feels crisp and satisfying...)

QuebecBagnet · 04/04/2022 18:27

I love my Baavets. Yes, they smell slightly sheepy at first but it wears off completely.

HalleLouja · 04/04/2022 18:29

Our Devon Duvets mattress topper is the best thing ever. We don’t have a duvet but would consider when we change our duvet.

TooManyPJs · 04/04/2022 18:35

I've got a baavet and two greenfibres. All lovely.

Goodbyetowinter · 04/04/2022 20:37

I have Baavet. I haven't noticed a smell and it's great.

Clarice99 · 04/04/2022 20:43

I have a Devon Duvet mattress topper, two duvets and two pillows. I'm not too keen on the pillows, but the topper and duvets are fantastic.

Amazing quality products and excellent customer service from Devon Duvets.

RockinHorseShit · 04/04/2022 20:44

Another vote for Woolroom, I love ours

Gherkingreen · 04/04/2022 20:46

I have a Fogarty wool duvet from Dunelm, not as expensive as the premium brands above so could be worth trying to see if you get on with it before investing £££.
I love ours; it's light and definitely helps me feel less hot in bed, but has a comforting weight to it (that makes no sense I realise Grin)
Will always choose wool duvets in the future.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 04/04/2022 20:49

We have one of the basic Woolroom duvets as our summer duvet.

It’s fine- they offer Deluxe and Luxurious versions as well, but tbh if I’d paid a premium for those I’d feel a bit short changed.

I love it and also have a wool pillow from them- they do really frequent 30% sales so it’s worth waiting for a decent discount.

I’ve found that both products did smell like wool/lanolin for a while. It’s quite strong, but a natural smell so I don’t mind it, but worth mentioning if you’re sensitive to smells.

GodspeedJune · 04/04/2022 20:53

I don’t recommend Baavet, I found a hole in mine when new and the owners weren’t very helpful or apologetic. They’re also a cream colour so show through white bed linen, and mine has never been good after washing despite following the instructions.

I have another wool duvet from house of fraser which is perfect. Has washed perfectly and looks like new.

antidisestablishmentarianism · 04/04/2022 20:54

I have a fogarty one from dunelm, have had it for YEARS and it’s still my favourite year round. It’s heavy but I love that, works almost all year round (I add a blanket in winter for cosiness rather than warmth) it is just lovely. I would not go back to a non wool one now.

mewkins · 04/04/2022 21:01

I have a baavet but it is way too warm for me. I realise (after much expense) that I need lots of light layers to through off when I need to not one heavy suffocating layer Grin

sophienelisse · 04/04/2022 21:25

I've never heard of wool quilts.

What are the benefits?

Do they look like standard quilts?

Do they need quilt covers?

How do you Wash them?

I have night owl coverless quilts so the whole quilt goes in the machine.
