What's the best paint out there that's well priced?

Looking to paint entire house and I'd like to find the best paint I can for no more than £40 for 5 litres and ideally less

Just an antique cream will do but just look nice and be relatively durable

Dulux seems to get bad reviews - any other suggestions please

Valspar paint from B&Q is excellent - really long lasting and durable.

You can have it mixed to any colour - I stopped buying F&B etc years ago and just get the colours matched. I think it's about the price you mentioned.

Ooh thanks @Bluebluemoon - I'll take a look at that

I tend to buy the more boutique paint if I want a specific colour and/or it’s a small area. Things like Painthouse, Craig and Rose, Coat… they all have great coverage and beautiful colours. But for bigger areas I’d definitely recommend Valspar too. The trade version is excellent.

I second Valspar above - has to be the premium but I think its around £30 for 5l and goes on like a dream.

Valspar.

HardRockOwl · 30/03/2022 20:25

OK

Valspar it is!

I'm going to order 10 colour chips I think!

Buy trade paint from a decorator centre. The quality is much better than the stuff DIY sheds sell to the general public, which has less pigment and more water. You should be able to get good quality white trade vinyl emulsion that can then be tinted to the colour you want without breaking the bank. Johnstone's and Dulux have computerised paint tinting systems which means they can accurately reproduce colours in their own paint.

I recently bought Armstead Contract Vinyl Matt paint for a large ceiling area for around £40 for 10L from a Dulux Decorator Centre, tinted to an "excellent" match for a Dulux off white colour. If I had bought the Dulux branded paint and had that tinted, it would have been nearly double the cost.

I always find Wilkos paint is cheap and relatively good quality.

I agree with above poster, go with a Trade paint, it will be much better quality. And still within your budget.
