Sofa fabric colour

Doing over a large sofa and choosing colour of velvet fabric. It has to go with an existing sofa in blue velvet, the top sample in each photo.

I like calming colours hence the possible teal (bottom fabric) but I also like the vibrancy and combination of the orange with the blue.

Am wondering if a big orange sofa might be a bit much? If I went with the teal I could accessorise with hot coloured cushions etc.

Neutral/grey coloured walls.

What do you think?

I LOVE bright colours but I think I'd go with the teal just because of how expensive sofas are and how long they need to last (and go with painted walls etc that might change).

All lovely colours there though.

As it happens we have a large orange velvet sofa and a dark blue velvet cuddle chair. I love it. Looks fantastic. But I'm obviously biased. We have the orange sofa against a navy blue wall 😍

Have you got small children? If so the darkest as possible. For some stupid reason we went with cream...

If not I'd go for the teal and add accent orange cushions. Fab colour combinations but they may date.

I love the look of the darker blue and the reddy/orange together, however, it will only work if you have other matching accents in the room. If the rest of your room is really quite plain, then go for the other blue.

I have the teal and love it.

I'd go for orange for a chair but not a sofa.

thisplaceisweird · 30/03/2022 14:51

I think if you go for the red/orange the rest of your room needs to be a bit more eclectic, moody and bold

But if you do the two tones of blue you can stick to beige, stone, natural colours

Hope that helps! Just images from pinterest (and my taste/opinion)

Really excited about getting my multiyork sofa covered (after nearly throwing it out!)

It's going to cost same as new sofa so don't want to make silly choice.

@thismeansnothing - Was thinking exactly that - navy wall with one orange sofa and one blue sofa - it just sounds so decadent!

but I tend to be conservative so it may end up being the teal 🙄

@thisplaceisweird - posted before I saw yours. I agree - orange needs boldness which I think will be rewarded (tho' not sure rest of family would agree!)

I'd also add I have 2 kids. (Ones 3 ones ten) it's the blue one thats the biggest pita. Shows every fleck of fluff ever. I'm forever going over it with a lint roller

Mine are teens and are like toddlers! food crumbs everywhere.

Wish I weren't such a ditherer but will have to make a decision soon before quote goes up!

The orange seems to bring out a slightly warmer tone in the carpet (might just be lighting variances in the pic, mind).

Personally, I'd go with orange. It won't look too zany if your other sofa's dark blue, and it'll pop nicely against a grey wall. You could also tone it down with muted cushions and throws.

The teal's a nice shade as well though.

ouch321 · 30/03/2022 15:47

Def the orange.

The teal looks like you were trying to match the navy but didn't quite manage. They are competing colours whereas blue-orange = complementary

Maggiethecat · 30/03/2022 15:51

I'm being persuaded........

This is my office; I'm a private tutor and use of for teaching pupils. Parents are always commenting on how welcoming the room feels. I think it's a great colour combination!

I’d go teal. And accessorise with colourful cushions.
Just realised I’m obsessed with cushions

KeepAgnusSafe · 31/03/2022 19:33

I like the teal and navy together.

KeepAgnusSafe · 31/03/2022 19:35

I wouldn't go for massively contrasting cushions to tie in a colour scheme - it doesn't work.

WellTidy · 31/03/2022 19:40

I’d go with the teal. For me, it would be easier to live with long term (we tend to replace sofas infrequently), and it would give more options for other colours. I am naturally safe in my choices - for me, this would be a great middle ground.

Ratatoo · 31/03/2022 19:55

Teal. I like the orange but it's a bit faddy and I'd worry I'd bore of it.
