Bunk Bed for a 4 Year Old

Hi all

We live in a 2 bedroom house; my partner and our two children. Our son is turning 5 soon and sleeps by himself in his room. My daughter is 2 and sleeps in my bed with my partner.

My son needs a new bed, mainly because the storage draws have broken and are a pain to open. I was thinking of getting a bunk bed and moving the two year old in there too.

  1. I see most bunk beds are for 6 year olds. Do you reckon it should be okay for a fairly competent 5 year old?
  1. Having my 2 year old daughter and 5 year old son share a room. Main concern if they were on the same level was my son covering her face or something to keep her quiet. anything to give me a heads up on here?

We currently live in the cheapest part of London so getting a bigger place is going to require extending our mortgage. We are considering a loft extension but we won't be able to afford that until the little one is out of nursery and that's going to be in 2025!

We have bunk beds where DD is on the top since Age 5 and 2 months and DS on the bottom aged 2 and 6 months.

Mine haven't fallen out but on the first few weeks we did put bean bags and duvets on the floor just in case.

The top does have high sides.

We got bunk beds when our daughter was 4.5 and son 2. Was fine, high sides so she couldn’t fall out.
