Wise women,

I’ve suddenly got it in my head to replace my rectangular dining table with a round one - as I have a fireplace with two recessed am thinking this is a better use of space for it to nestle into one of the alcoves.

Or am I making this up?

Opionions please….

A pedestal table is often a v good use of space because you can fit chairs in at any point around the table.

but you'd need to post a plan or photo for a proper comment on your room.

We bought a round Calligaris table and the top kept coming loose from the base make sure it is very firmly attached.

I had a round table with fold-down flaps, on a pedestal leg. With one flap down it sat neatly against the wall, while still being comfortable for 4. When we had guests I would pull it away from the wall and put the flap up, easily accommodating at least two more seats.

I like a round table, as long as there's space for it, it is on a pedestal leg, and it is very solid - no wobble!

I’ve had the same thought and I keep going on about it. My teenage son has convinced me I’m wrong, and he was right about the sofa.

@GaryTheCat I agree with @parietal A round dining table with a central pedestal leg is great because you can put more chairs around it and no one has to sit round the leg. . The downside is , if it is big , there is a lot of reaching over to do if food etc is in the middle . But On balance I would do it

All best

We replaced our rectangular table with a round skovby table (second hand) . It’s worked really well. Loads of room.

Round tables are very sociable. No one is at the head of the table.
