Where do you go for ideas?

I’m doing up my DS room at the minute. He’s only 2 so I want to get him involved, but he’s not old enough to really call the shots.

I’ve got no idea where to go for ideas though. Pinterest is letting me down.

Where do you go to get the best ideas for DC rooms?

Is he articulate enough yet to give you a theme as a starting point? If not, can it wait a year or so until he is able and has a better sense of his interests/tastes? If he's at the younger end of 2 he may quickly outgrow whatever is perfect for him now, so it is worth considering a more neutral colour with added wall stickers or themed accessories if you can't wait. I decorated a room for DD1 when she was 2yo due to extending the house and her getting the new bedroom, and it was beginning to look a bit young for her by 4yo. They change so much in that time. Before we had the extension, my plan had been to redecorate from the nursery colours around 4yo, which would have hopefully seen her through to tween age.

I ask DCs what they want (loosely), then have a browse through Pintrest, Google, and homeware departments to gather ideas. I redecorated 7yo DD1's room at the end of last year, and then-4yo DD2's the year before. They chose 'space' and 'garden' themes respectively and I planned the rest, although DD1 choose between the 3 blues I had shortlisted for her room. Otherwise is was a surprise, but they were both thrilled with the result. Both rooms can grow with the kids until upper-primary age, although DD2's will probably need a few 'younger' decorations removing/updating in a few years.
