Wooden blinds.. Tapes or no tapes?

Desperate to get some wooden venetian blinds but can't decide whether to get with or without tapes. I love the look of them with tapes from the outside and think they look much more modern. I'm just concerned about how busy they'll look on the inside in a bay window and also that they'll block out extra light.

i would definitely say with tapes, looks nicer. I wouldn’t go for very thick style ones, you can various sizes

Without makes it seem like a more clinical setting imo

We have them without in a bay window and it definitely doesn't look clinical! Interestingly the 3 companies we had out to quote all said to avoid tapes as they can't be cleaned and will quickly start to look grubby.

Our estate is about half and half in terms of tapes or not, so it's just personal preference.

I think tapes can look a bit busy, especially if the window has a lot of detail.

Defintely tapes and the widest slats you can get, makes them look much more expensive and well manufactured.

Do you have a photo of yours by any chance? Thanks

Definitely tapes, makes them look much more ‘expensive’

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/03/2022 09:05

No tapes, partly because of the way they look and also because they get dirty.

Bluebellsandbroomsticks · 05/03/2022 12:50

@HeatherWha we were still decorating so excuse the pic!

If you zoom in the house opposite has white tapes on their wooden blinds and I just think it looks quite busy personally.

@Bluebellsandbroomsticks thank you. Looking at the style of your windows compared to ours we're definitely going to go with no tapes.

No tapes here because of the inability to clean them. Interestingly my blind fitter this week said he has people contacting him asking if the tapes can be removed because of the cleaning issue.
I intend having these blinds for a very long time so the cleaning was an issue for me

Getmeoutaherenow · 07/03/2022 07:34

Just to say - it's pretty easy to replace tapes...check out youtube. We've just bought a house and old taped blinds were left behind - they were old and the mechanism was broken but I didn't think they looked too grubby. I think the tapes give a better finish.
But ultimately the blinds suck the light out of the room, so I'll be looking for an alternative.

AncientWhitedogpoop · 09/03/2022 15:35

Does anyone else have any pics to add to this? We have delayed buying blinds for 2 years now and we have to bite the bullet soon and order. I cannot decide between tapes, no tapes, going the whole hog and having shutters - but if we do will it look silly to have blinds elsewhere at the front.

Purpleavocado · 09/03/2022 15:38

I don't have tapes, as the window aren't that big and the windows themselves are in panes of 4 on each part. I thought it would be too much visual clutter in a small space.
When you look at the buying the blinds, you might want to consider the faux wood, this is what we have, and you can't tell. I think it's much easier to keep clean and won't warp etc.

Square bay here with no tapes.
They gather a huge amount of dust but it's relatively easy to clean the blinds themselves. Wouldn't fancy the faff if cleaning the tapes though!

Just resurrecting this (please don't everyone moan about Zombie thread as I want to catch up with the original posters and get some some replies)
I was on the thread earlier but have name changed since.
We still haven't bought new blinds due to money issues and putting decorating on hold but have saved up to finally get this done for Spring!
We're thinking off white wood Venetian without tapes. Would LOVE shutters but want the whole front of house to match and we can't afford that.
Any updates appreciated on what other people have and the pros and cons.
