So I’ve lived in my house for a year, slowly redecorating and the time is coming for the living room to get done.
I’m planning sage green and cream on the walls. I have a medium brown sofa which is getting on a bit, but if I replaced it I’d probably go a similar colour (I don’t think black works well, cream is out of the question as I have a dog, and grey is ok but I think brown works better).
I’ve got two alcoves, one of which will have the tv in it, so I need two pieces of furniture. I don’t love the idea of it being too matchy-matchy, but having looked at every single sideboard and tv cabinet that’s ever been made over the last week, I’m leaning towards a sort of Art Deco slash retro sort of vibe.

So I’m pretty set on the tv unit that I want for one alcove, but the second one is stumping me. I have a gap of about 1360mm there.

Option one - love the rippled glass and the height, it’s only 560mm wide so wouldn’t fill the alcove. Everything in the glass part would obviously be fairly visible but I can keep it mostly decorative.

Option two - 1060mm wide so would fit pretty perfectly alongside a lamp I have in the space. I like that the wooden aspects would tie in nicely with the sofa.

Does anyone want to let me know their thoughts? The living room is currently grey but won’t be staying that way so I’m not concerned about that.

Excuse very poor cropping skills please!

It's hard to say without knowing what you want to keep in/on it, but I prefer option 2 I think. 1 might look a little lost in the alcove you have, and not sure it's a great use of space.

To throw you a curveball though, have you tried eBay/ FB marketplace for actual vintage pieces?

Love the TV unit by the way, can I ask where it's from?

I have looked but there’s not loads out there that I like which have decent pictures and actual measurements! I also like to ponder for a few days to make sure I actually like it and that tends not to be great for eBay stuff!

I’ve taken the plunge and gone for two. I love the tall cabinet but I think it’s more that I like it rather than it working for the space?

Tv unit I’ve seen on a few places, that’s the Etsy picture but Cambrewood have it as well.

I wish I had a space for this though, I love it!
