Best paint for painting childs bed

I want to paint my daughters bed, its currently plain wood and I'd like it white.

What's the best paint to use?

is your DD old enough to not eat the paint?
is the wood varnished or unvarnished?

Most paints are fine as long as you do the right preparation. I think that's the key to success for a hardwearing finish.
My personal favourites for painting furniture are Little Greene, Colourtrend and Autentico but I've also had good results with Fleetwood and Valspar.
